HAND BUILDING WITH CLAY

Hand building is an ancient pottery-making technique that involves creating forms without a pottery wheel, using the hands, fingers, and simple tools. All finished projects will be hand painted with glaze and fired in our kiln. All projects will be ready to be picked up two weeks after the last class.

BEGINNER POTTERY - WHEEL WORK LEVEL I (14YRS +)

If you have never sat down at a pottery wheel before but have always wanted to give it a try, this is the class for you. Instructors will teach participants the basics of wheel throwing techniques as well as how to prepare clay, use and care for tools. Each class will begin with instruction and demonstration, then students will spend time practicing what they have learned. This class focuses on the process of creating pieces on the wheel, so the emphasis each class is on skills rather than a finished product. Some of the completed pieces created in class will be glazed with high fire glaze. Classes are small, with only 8 students, which allows for maximum one on one time with the instructors. All clay, glaze, and firing of projects are included in the cost of this class.

Come advance your throwing skills, develop and hone new techniques, and try surface decoration techniques.

Students are required to supply their own clay. Our studio go to clay is Plainsman M340 which you can purchase and Lakeview Pottery.

ADULT ART SAMPLER

Our most popular class is back!! Come get your hands dirty and dive into creativity! This class is designed for the complete and total beginner OR those people that like to try new things. We will try out several different artistic mediums throughout the course of this class including dot mandala, alcohol inks, painting with acrylics, watercolour, print making, and more!

INTRO TO PRINTMAKING INSTRUCTOR - ELKE RICHTER 14+ YEARS

In this class, students will learn the basics of printmaking through gelatine print and linocuts.  Students will make monoprints using gelatine plates and found materials to learn about ink and printing by hand.  Following this, we will learn how the reductive process of linocutting works through a guided print that explores positive and negative space as well as creating shapes and effects with our linocutting knives.  Finally students will be able to explore subject matter of their choice through our final linocutting project, emphasizing personal style and adapting an image or drawing into a linocut print!

Basic drawing skills are needed for this class.

DRAWING SAMPLER INSTRUCTOR - ELKE RICHTER 14+ YEARS

Interested in drawing but not sure where to start?  Our drawing sampler is for you!  Each week we will explore drawing materials through hands-on projects, focusing on basic techniques for each medium and encouraging students to explore their preferred mediums further.  Our final project will be in the medium and subject matter of the student’s choice, allowing all students creative space to explore what interests them most!  Mediums explored will include pencil, charcoal, oil pastel, soft pastel, and pencil crayon.
