Impressionism: Monet’s Waterlilies   (14yrs+)

In this acrylic painting class students will take a closer look at Impressionism through the eyes of its creator, Claude Monet.  Learn to observe real natural colours and light in the objects we see everyday, through the observation and study of Monet’s masterful work, Waterlilies.  Students will learn how to choose paint colours and mix colours for their own water lilies inspired paintings.   Students will learn basics of how to hold and use their brushes to achieve certain brushwork styles and techniques.  This class is open to all levels of creative people.

Chinese ink and watercolour painting

Chinese ink painting and calligraphy from artist and instructor Jingyu Zhang.  Jingyu learned this beautiful art form at his home in China and now we are lucky enough to have him at our studio to share this beautiful art form with our students.  Students will learn Chinese calligraphy lettering for a variety of words and phrases, as well as learning the art of ink painting images to accompany their lettering.   We have imported all tools and materials right from China, including traditional brushes, inks and rice papers.  All materials and use of tools is included in the cost of the class.  This class is open to all levels of creative people.

Beginner Mixed Media - ART JOURNALING  I  (14yrs+)
INSTRUCTOR - MAUREEN BACHMANN

 

An art journal is basically a visual diary. Anyone can make an art journal. The only difference is how you use it. You can use it like a diary every day, like a comic book of your life, things that happened to you, or just do sketches of interesting or memorable moments from your day or week.  Art journaling is play, exploration & experimentation wrapped into one!  It's about doing an unstructured form of art in a bound journal.  In this class, instructor Maureen Bachmann, will introduce students to the world of art journaling and mixed media art. Learn how to create mixed media backgrounds, colour, texture, lettering, stamping, collaging and MORE!

 


Beyond the basics - ART JOURNALING  II  (14yrs+)

Instructor and professional artist, Maureen Bachmann brings years or art making experience to this class.  This class is for those creative people who may be familiar with art journaling or maybe have dabbled a bit themselves.  This class will take art journaling to the next level.  Some of the topics and techniques covered in this class will be: mono printing and gelli printing, sprays and mists, making your own stamps, types of page embellishments, compositions, choosing images, different types of painting mediums.  This class will be a fun class where participants are encouraged to explore and use their creativity.  No previous experience is necessary.

LAYERING AND LANDSCAPES I - ACRYLIC PAINTING   (14YRS +)

Debbie has a persistent quest in her work to express beauty, to reach outward and inward, to describe the truth of the human spirit, by exploring and documenting the prairie landscape.  She is fascinated with the concept that the natural world is designed to be beautiful, inspiring and healing and works in layers captures the subtleness and complexity of her subject matter.  In this course, Debbie shares her expertise and techniques for using glazing and gel mediums with acrylic paints to create beautiful imagery of nature.  Students will learn how to paint landscape images using these techniques, how to mix colours, and use various acrylic mediums.  This class is for any level of painter from the complete beginner to the advanced person looking to expand their knowledge of glazing techniques.

LAYERING AND LANDSCAPES II - ACRYLIC PAINTING   (14YRS +)

This class is a continuation and expansion of ‘Layering and Landscapes- Acrylic painting’.
There will be lessons on color theory, value, intensity, mixing greys and neutrals, glazing, four methods of underpainting, all of which combined will form depth, realism and quality in their work. Students will have the opportunity to work on their own painting from start to finish with choice of subject matter.
This class is open to any level of painter from beginner to advanced.

BEGINNER POTTERY - HAND BUILDING   (14YRS +)

Before potters had the pottery wheel, they were creating spectacular pots and clay forms. Using clay, their hands, and a minimum of tools they brought function and artistry together.  In this pottery class students will learn the three basic hand built pottery techniques, Coil, Pinch and Slab construction and will create a variety of functional and decorative pieces using these techniques.  All pieces created in this class will be glazed with high fire glaze and fired in our kiln.  All clay, glaze, and firing of projects are included in the cost of this class. All tools are provided for student use during classes with no additional cost to the class participants.

BEGINNER POTTERY - WHEEL WORK LEVEL I  (14YRS +)

If you have never sat down at a pottery wheel before but have always wanted to give it a try, this is the class for you. Artist and instructor  Karlie King will teach participants the basics of wheel throwing techniques as well as how to prepare clay, use and care for tools. Each class will begin with instruction and demonstration, then students will spend time practicing what they have learned.   This class focuses on the process of creating pieces on the wheel, so the emphasis each class is on skills rather than a finished product.  Some of the completed pieces created in class will be glazed with high fire glaze.   Classes are small, with only 10 students, which allows for maximum one on one time with the instructor.  All clay, glaze, and firing of projects are included in the cost of this class. All tools are provided for student use during classes with no additional cost to the class participants.

PHOTOGRAPHY - THE BASICS
INSTRUCTORS - JULIA BUCKINGHAM AND LUCAS BESTH

In this beginner photography class students will learn from professional photography duo Julia and Lucas, how to take stunning pictures with ease.  Learn all about the parts of your camera and how to use them, understanding lighting and your lens.  Students will also work on composition and how to train your "photography eye" to create the best pictures possible.  Subject matter will range from still life and people to photographing nature and the night sky.
